Dozens of programs throughout Western New York will receive more than $10 million in new federal funding to help fight homelessness. The funds are part of nearly $192 million in grants awarded to agencies across New York as part of $1.81 billion allocated by Housing and Urban Development to support nearly 8,400 local programs.

With Buffalo drivers paying the highest gas prices in New York, and the second highest prices of any metropolitan area in the continental United States, relief could be on the way. Erie County Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw and County Legislator Ted Morton are suggesting a cap on Erie County's sales tax, replacing the county's 4.75% sales tax with a flat 10 cent sales tax.

The United Way of Buffalo Erie County will award nearly $4.6 million in grants and support for the 2015 allocation cycle, beginning in July. The investments include $4.1 million in grants for 107 programs at 59 Erie County human service organizations that address priorities in education, financial stability and health and wellness; plus another $487,169 for special initiatives.

The Buffalo, New York area is struggling to dig out from nearly six feet of snow as more continues to falls. Local meteorologists said that the latest snow Amarillo saw was a "million dollar snow" But it turned out to be more than that.
