Vanquish

Also available for: PS3

The story of Vanquish is set in the near future. Russia and the United States are vying for ownership of the world's fast-depleting energy resources and the US has constructed a space station in order to harness energy from the sun. Russian forces capture this space station and divert its harvested solar energy into a blast wave that destroys San Francisco, aiming to force the US into a total and unconditional surrender. In response, the US tasks its armed forces with recapturing the space station before the Russians can annihilate their next target – New York.

Players take the role of Sam, a government agent who must stop the threat before it is too late. Armed with a special suit and a plethora of weapons, Sam also has an array of martial arts skills that he can use to take down his robot enemies.

Ratings for Vanquish

Rating Description
7
Presentation Vanquish has an impressive level of polish. The story and character development, however, aren't engaging.
9
Graphics Vanquish is a chaotic, detailed spectacle of bullets and booster rockets. Organic sections are less impressive than the inorganic settings, but overall this game looks awesome.
8.5
Sound The music in Vanquish is a fitting electronic affair. There are a surprising number of language tracks here, including Japanese, French and Italian, along with solid English performances.
8.5
Gameplay Enjoyable gunplay mixed with weapon power-ups, arcade-style scoring and an insanely fast boosting mechanic to traverse levels in a flash. Marvelous action set pieces.
7.5
Lasting Appeal The campaign will only take six to seven hours to complete. Fortunately there are challenge stages to fight waves of enemies in a focused battle scenario, but Vanquish could have lasted a bit longer.
8.5
